Gender Identity illustrations
According to my topic gender identity, I created some illustrations. Gender identity is a wide-ranging topic that includes homosexuality, gender neutral, transgender, third gender, tow- spirit and so on. Therefore, I decided to focus on homosexuality, transgender, two-spirit to create illustrations. In order to express gay and lesbian, I drew a girl to propose marriage to a girl and a boy to propose to a boy as well as drew the same dog in two paintings to create a funny feeling. Nail polish, high heels, skirts and long hair can represent women, as well as beards, hairy leg, Adam’s apple, and short hair can represent men, so these elements are widely used in my artwork to express the difference between men and women.
This is a challenging assignment, and I have painted a lot of drafts and changed them many times. Sara Andreasson’s illustrations gave me inspiration, I like her colour palette and the characters he created. After admiring her illustrations, I choose the complementary colours blue and orange to increase visual impact.
